Leadership & Life Coach for Women's Issues
One of the common things that you hear on a job site on any given Friday is “thank God it’s Friday.” If most people dread Mondays and can’t wait for Fridays to arrive, then clearly something is wrong somewhere. Recent statistics show that 70% of people are ill matched with their jobs. Have we lost touch with who we really are, what we are wired to do and what we are motivated to do and passionate about?
One of the things I enjoy helping women with is to determine what motivates them and what they get passionate about. It is always interesting for me to go on a passion quest or motivation quest with my clients. So often when I ask what they are passionate about, they can’t seem to give me a straight forward answer. Even Oprah recently did a poll and discovered that 70% of women couldn’t tell what they were passionate about. What’s the problem? Could it be that we are making this whole issue of passion and motivation harder than it needs to be?
Every definition of passion I have looked at involves the notion of an intense love or affection for something. Passion and motivation go hand in hand. In fact, sometimes we assume that certain people are lazy and they really may just lack passion or motivation. It would make sense that if you are passionate about something, there is an intense desire for love for the object of your passion.
So, if you want to know what you are passionate about, look at the obvious clues all around you. What do you love doing and are good at doing the same time? What can’t you get enough of? What do you light up about? What do other people say you are good at doing? What can you get all wrapped up in and lose a sense of time? An important thing to remember is that passion and motivation always go hand in hand.
