Get Your Life Back Now

It seems most very day when you turn on the news there is some kind of bad news.  Our economy seems out of control and so do people.  Just a few days ago, in a town not too far from me, a man walks into a nursing home and kills eight elderly people.  Who does those kinds of things and what has gone wrong with our world?  It’s one thing to have anger and even rage and quite another to let that anger and rage get so out of control that innocent lives are destroyed.

I wonder if all the bad news that we listen to day after day isn’t making us all a little crazy?  If we are not careful, over time, we become conditioned by what we hear.  Our hearts take it in and slowly we become despondent or afraid or anxious.  We begin to believe maybe the sky is falling.  Maybe we are heading towards economic collapse. We find that we don’t want to do the things we used to do or go where we used to go.  We wake up one day and realize that something has changed and we are not as happy as we used to be.

May I make a suggestion? Maybe it’s time to hear something different.  Maybe it’s time to turn off the news, flip the channel and take a sabbatical. What we hear affects and impacts what we believe.  If all we hear is negativity, at some point our minds will agree with that information and it will affect the way we think. So my advice is turn off the bad news and better yet get some good news into your life.

Put back some joy into your life.  I recently read children laugh 400 times a day and adults only laugh 15 times a day. That, my friend, is a sad commentary on adulthood. We have a lot of catching up to do!

One of the things that I love about being a grandmother is that I get to see life through my four year old grandson’s eyes and what a perspective that is!  Jordan loves to laugh and he has an enormous capacity to have fun.  Jordan helps me to flip the channel in my life. I find I am way too serious.  I need to lighten up, let go of my agenda more, even with my little guy, and just enjoy silliness from time to time.  When was the last time you were silly? It is not only good for the soul, but it really is like a breath of fresh air.

So my friend if you find that you are anxious, fearful or even somewhat depressed ask yourself -what are you listening to and where is your focus? If you all you hear is bad news, at some point you are going to focus on what is wrong, what is missing and what is lacking and you are going to become fearful, discouraged and maybe even a bit depressed. There is a better life for you.  Turn off the news, play a little, laugh some more and get your life back!
