The Four P’s of Leadership...

What does it take to become a great leader? No doubt one could list many components and qualities of a great leader, but there seems to be a pattern of qualities that emerge over and over again in great leaders. I call them the four P’s of leadership. They are: Perspective, Persistence, Patience, and Preparation.

Perspective – Life is always about perspective. At the end of the day, what matters is how a person views the circumstances in their life. One person sees a glass half empty and another sees it half full. One person views obstacles and another sees challenges or growth opportunities to overcome. A great leader learns to control the one thing they can control and that is their own thinking and perspective. A great leader learns how to control their internal world in order to make a difference and affect the outside world.

Leading Women Who Wound...

leadingwomenIt has often been said, that “Christianity is the only army that shoots its own wounded.” It is not something we like to talk about and often wish would go away, but the pain that men and women experience behind the closed doors of ministry can be quite devastating. It is ever so devastating because it often comes disguised in the form of “sheep’s clothing.”

Sue Edwards and Kelley Matthews have taken on the tough subject “Leading Women Who Wound.” It is much more than a “how to” book or documentary on the subject. While there is plenty of helpful and “how to” information, it really is a book born out of life experiences. Sue and Kelley have shared their heart and their stories. They have given us not only a peek into the heart and soul of women but a look into their own lives, their struggles and the lives of many women they have encountered along the way.

Finding Your Passion...

Many of the women that I coach want something more out of life. The problem occurs when I ask these women what they are passionate about. Many stare at me absolutely clueless. Unfortunately, this is not only true for the women I coach but seems to be the issue for many women in our world today. In fact, statistics bear this out. In a recent poll that Oprah did, 70% of women couldn’t tell what they were passionate about. Okay, time to get re-acquainted with ourselves and our passions! Here are four questions to think about.

The Four Habits of Success...

Life is about choices. We cannot only choose how we view ourselves and our lives but we can even choose our habits. I believe we can position ourselves for success by choosing to develop new habits.

Habit 1 – Exercising Choice: Stephen Covey calls it getting a “paradigm” shift. Most of us could use a paradigm shift. Covey states that most of us “see things not as they are, but as we are conditioned to see them.” Once we understand that much of our life has been conditioned by our past, then we can make a “paradigm” shift in the way we see things. That paradigm shift comes through our choices. We can choose to get a new perspective. We can choose to see ourselves differently and move beyond our past, our victim mentality, excuses and blame. Successful people not only choose to view themselves differently but choose to see the difficulties of their lives as opportunities for growth instead of obstacles to be eliminated.

With so many people losing their jobs, now might just be a good time to create your own PERSONAL STIMULUS package. What do I mean? Maybe it’s time to get re-acquainted with yourself and what you are really passionate about. Recent statistics show that 70% of people are ill matched with their jobs. Not only are people losing jobs but the ones who are working are not happy in their current position.

One of the things I enjoy helping women with is to determine what motivates them and to re-discover some of their passions and dreams. I love doing this because I tend to think that if we do what we love and are passionate about, the money will come.
